1/8/2024 0 Comments Conception to due date monthWeight management merits consideration because insufficient or excessive weight gain can have negative effects for both mother and fetus, including the need for cesarean section (C-section) and gestational hypertension. It affects many aspects of fetal development, such as the weight of the baby, the placenta, extra circulatory fluid, and its fat and protein stores. Weight gain is a largely inevitable and necessary aspect of pregnancy that varies between people. A person that is pregnant should consult their doctor regarding any medications they plan to use during their pregnancy. Drugs that have positive benefits for the mother with low risk to the fetus are classified as category A, while drugs with proven, significant fetal risks that outweigh potential benefits to the mother are classified a category X. In the U.S., drugs are classified into categories A, B, C, D, and X by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) based on potential benefits vs. Taking certain medications during pregnancy can have lasting effects on the fetus. There are a number of factors that need to be considered during pregnancy, many of which are highly dependent on the individual's situation, such as medication, weight gain, exercise, and nutrition. It is also possible to get a clinical urine test, but these are not necessarily more accurate than a home pregnancy test, and can potentially be more costly. While clinical blood tests are more accurate, and can detect exact amounts of the hormone hCG (which is only present during pregnancy) earlier and in smaller quantities, they take more time to evaluate and are more expensive than home pregnancy urine tests. Pregnancy tests involve the detection of hormones that serve as biomarkers for pregnancy and include clinical blood or urine tests that can detect pregnancy from six to eight days after fertilization. Pregnancy can be detected either by using pregnancy tests or by the woman herself noticing a number of symptoms, including a missed menstrual period, increased basal body temperature, fatigue, nausea, and increased frequency of urination. 2 As such, while it is possible to be fairly confident that a person's child will be born within about two weeks of the due date, it is currently not possible to predict the exact day of birth with certainty. Studies have shown that fewer than 4% of births occur on the exact due date, 60% occur within a week of the due date, and almost 90% occur within two weeks of the due date. 1 However, there are still more factors affecting natural variation in pregnancy terms that are not well understood. While the due date can be estimated, the actual length of pregnancy depends on various factors, including age, length of previous pregnancies, and weight of the mother at birth. Alternatively, the due date can also be estimated based on a person's last menstrual period. During a person's first OB-GYN visit, the doctor will usually provide an estimated date (based on a sonogram) at which the child will be born, or due date. The World Health Organization defines a normal pregnancy term to last between 37 and 42 weeks. Childbirth usually occurs approximately 38 weeks after conception, or about 40 weeks after the last menstrual period. Pregnancy is a term used to describe a woman's state over a time period (~9 months) during which one or more offspring develops inside of a woman. Related Ovulation Calculator | Conception Calculator

It then shifts perspective to where we see Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak having a friendly off-screen rivalry (Trebek wears a badge that says “Pat Sajak Looks like Badger”). We then see Faye Goddard, Julie and her brother, abandoned at the side of the road by their mother, waiting for her to return. It begins in the 1970s where we see a woman getting her hair stroked by a stranger in a movie theater. The story is constructed in a pretty wild DFW way. She has been on the show for three years now, and all of the money she wins is sent directly to her autistic brother. She is so winning, and so popular that they break the rules just for her and allow her to continue after the heretofore proscribed five days (this of course predates Ken Jennings by many years…the official policy was changed in 2003). So “Animals” concerns Julie Smith, who is the longest-winning contestant on Jeopardy!, ever. But for me it was disconcerting to have the pop culture not incidental or as a set dressing, but absolutely central to the stories. In David Lipsky’s book, Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself, DFW states matter-of-factly that he has an obsession with TV and pop culture, so this shouldn’t be surprising. In fact, if I may back up, the whole collection is really rife with pop culture, especially television references. The first story is “Little Expressionless Animals” (or, the Jeopardy! story). So I wonder if I didn’t read them at all. I didn’t even recognize the ones that I had apparently read.Īnd the stories are pretty memorable. I had checked off a few stories in the table of contents (most of the shorter ones) but that stub brought back more memories than the stories did. It was in Brighton, was more or less on my way to work, had a predominance of Irish products and had delicious subs that were almost cheaper than buying the stuff yourself. I was delighted to find as a bookmark an old stub from a sub shop that I used to go to all the time when I worked in Cambridge, Ma. I clearly bought this copy soon after finishing Infinite Jest. This is DFW’s first collection of short stories. The biggest problem of course is that most of them are not available in the States (at least for a reasonable price). And I don’t know if the BBC is hard pressed for money or what, but they seem to be releasing them by the handful lately. If you like a British band, chances are they recorded some sessions. There are so many BBC recordings out there (this is an incomplete list). It was many years before I understood why there were two “official” releases of the same songs. I always thought that the Hatful of Hollow versions of songs were better than the originals. So, they know the song backwards at this point, and they usually record a version that’s faithful to the original but a little more playful. What makes these releases so great is that by the time the bands do these recordings for the BBC, the original album has been out a while and the band has toured a bit. For the most part they don’t vary greatly from the originals (that’s not always the case, mind you, but most of the time it’s true.) The recordings are “live,” even though they’re not in front of an audience. In the last few years, I’ve gotten discs from the Cocteau Twins, Tindersticks, The Beautiful South, Belle and Sebastian and Therapy? One of the first ones I’d every gotten was The Smiths’ Hatful of Hollow. And after several sessions, they tend to get released as BBC Live or BBC Sessions discs. Many many bands that I like have recorded tracks for the BBC. 1/8/2024 0 Comments Justinmind customersSmooth, continuous slide microinteractions help create the illusion of natural interaction with physical objects. Image carousels allow users to preview several products in a short time without leaving the category page.įor the best image carousel experience, Rashni recommends focusing on smooth transitions and intuitive navigation: In contrast, manual carousels (like Ikea’s) permit users to click or swipe through images, and animated microinteractions that put users in control of their UIs have proved to increase time on page and conversions. Studies show that automatic carousels are frustrating to users because rapid movement can be distracting. Ikea’s “Quick View” image carousel allows visitors to preview the most popular product categories on the same page. Ikea’s “Quick View” feature allows rapid navigation through the site’s most popular categories-saving users time and clicks. To accelerate the product discovery process (and conserve space on mobile) many e-commerce sites use image carousels on their category pages. Successful category pages allow users to quickly scan their options before digging for more details. Parallax scrolling makes a site background move at a slower rate than the foreground as the user scrolls, creating a 3D-like effect.ĭirect-to-consumer sites use category pages to present multiple variations of a single product ( like a barbell on this fitness equipment manufacturer’s site) while e-commerce marketplaces use category pages to showcase numerous brands selling similar products (like ASOS’s “ shirts” page, which features clothing from different retail brands). As a user scrolls down the homepage, content appears at intervals and varying speeds, mimicking real-world parallax and acting as a form of progessive disclosure that makes it easier for the user to scan and digest information on the screen. Parallax scrolling is a powerful animation technique for establishing the visual hierarchy of homepage content, such as product photos, descriptions, and categories. Rashni explains that animation that organizes large amounts of information contributes to more intuitive design, which in turn helps to hold a user’s attention. Animation can make drop-down menus more engaging and reinforce product categorization, making it easier for users to find items and reducing drop-off rates. Homepage design choices, such as navigation, need to be strategic to capture a user’s attention. “The more realistic the experience, the deeper the connection between the user and the product, and the more likely a repeat visit to the site.” The E-commerce Homepageĭigital shoppers have dwindling attention spans and little patience for complex UIs. “For example, when the user adds an item to their cart, scale-down and drop-in-cart microinteractions make this action feel more realistic, as if the user were shopping in a brick and mortar store,” she says. “Many e-commerce UI elements have functionalities that can benefit from microinteractions in order to engage the customer and provide vital information,” says Rashni Parichha, a product designer and member of the Toptal network. For example, the search box on an e-commerce homepage might signal interactivity by expanding when a user hovers or taps on it then it may reveal animated autosuggestions as users type search queries. Animated microinteractions aid in this journey of discovery. At each step, more information is revealed. The e-commerce sales funnel has four common steps-homepage, category page, product page, and checkout-that guide users from a company’s initial value proposition to purchase. Animated UX Microinteractions in the E-commerce Sales Funnel According to UX designer Alexandre Brito, a member of the Toptal network since 2016, even simple animated effects-like the scrollbar, pull-to-refresh, and swipe-can help create intuitive digital shopping experiences. In addition to helping users find and buy products, they can foster habit loops that result in repeat customers.ĭespite their importance in the e-commerce funnel, animated microinteractions don’t need to be especially fancy. These subtle motion effects provide quick visual feedback when a user interacts with a UI component, such as a menu or button, and are meant to improve findability and guide users as they navigate between e-commerce pages. When applied throughout e-commerce experiences, animated microinteractions communicate system progress, improve user satisfaction, and increase conversion rates. Modes, created mainly by the churches, were the basis for most of western music. Modes, however, are still heard in contemporary music. Modes in this time were replaced by the major and minor scales. From the 17th century until the 19th century, modes were not used as widely. In the middle ages, modes were used to organize the melodic and harmonic parts of music. Remember that sharps and flats affect names. To determine the name of a minor key, find the name of the key in major and then count backwards three half steps. Key signatures can specify major or minor keys. The key signature is the note a half step above that last sharp. To find the name of a key signature with sharps, look at the sharp farthest to the right. One flat is F, since you can't go to the next -to-last flat. This flat is on the line or space the key signature is named after. When confronted with a key signature that consists of flats, look at the flat second from the far right. There is a little trick to figuring out a key signature's name. In the middle is the number and position of the sharps or flats. On the inside are the corresponding minor key names. On the outside are the major key names, separated by fifths. To help understand and remember key signatures, a chart called the circle of fifths can be used. The arrangement of sharps and flats at the beginning of a piece of music is called a key signature. So, placing a sharp on line F makes every F sharp. Placing accidentals at the beginning of the music (as opposed to right beside a note) allows the accidentals to affect every note in the entire piece. Since some notes will always be sharp once transposed or in certain scales, it is sometimes helpful to place accidentals at the very beginning of a piece in order to modify all the notes of a certain pitch. All the notes of a piece can be modified in this way, by finding a note's counterpart in the modified scale. Thus, if you used the major scale pattern, but started at G, you would just have to count up according to the major scale pattern to transpose it. Rewriting the same scale pattern at a different pitch is called transposition. Scale patterns can be duplicated at any pitch. This, alternating creates the blues inflection. This scale contains flat thirds and sevenths which, alternate with normal thirds and sevenths. The blues scale is a chromatic variant of the major scale. Like the chromatic scale, it too has no tonic. A whole tone scale is comprised of whole steps. Because each pitch is equidistant, there is no tonic. The chromatic scale is a nondiatonic scale that consists of half steps only. Many nondiatonic scales have no identifiable tonic. Scales that do not follow the interval patterns of the diatonic or pentatonic scales are called nondiatonic scales. To get from one end of the scale to the other, they require gaps of more than a half step. Pentatonic scales, as their name suggests, have only five notes. The melodic minor scale, however, ascends with the modifications noted above, but descends in the natural minor scale. All the patterns to this point have been the same as one climbs and descends the scales. In this scale, the sixth and seventh notes are each raised one half step. There is now an interval of one half step between the seventh and eighth notes, and one and a half steps between the sixth and seventh notes. This scale is the same as the natural minor scale, except the seventh step is raised a half step. There are half steps between the second and third and the fifth and sixth degrees whole steps exist between all other steps. These scales have seven different scale degrees. Likewise, if you know the pattern for any other scale, you can create them, too. By changing the first note, then using the pattern as a guide, you can construct any major scale. The pattern of whole and half steps is the same for all major scales. There are half steps between the third and fourth and seventh and eighth scale degrees whole steps exist between all other steps. The major scale consists of seven different pitches. The seventh tone of the major, harmonic and melodic minor scales is called the leading tone if it is one half step lower than the tonic. The subtonic is the seventh note in the natural minor scale. The third is the mediant, halfway between the tonic and dominant. The other notes in the scale also have names. Because of this, diatonic melodies often end on the diatonic note. It is the most 'stable' note, or rather the easiest to find. Diatonic scales are scales that include half and whole steps. Here is a list of all the topic on this page:Ī scale is a group of pitches (scale degrees) arranged in ascending order. Our Flash Keyboard can help your understanding of this area.
